Should pineapples be allowed on pizza?

Sam Panopoulos ; Creator of Pineapple pizza

There are so many things to put on a pizza, you can even be like Buddy the Elf and put syrup on it! I mean, you do you. But what about pineapple? Is pineapple a good choice for a pizza topping? There are a bunch of toppings, but I think pineapple has the most debate.

“Pineapple on pizza originated in the small town of Chatham, Ontario, Canada, far from the beaches of Hawaii that have become the namesake for the dish. It was restaurant owner and chef, Sam Panopoulos at his restaurant, Satellite Restaurant who has been given credit for being the Father of the Hawaiian Pizza,” stated blog.margaritaville. Now let’s get the perspectives of four locals to see how they feel about pineapple on pizza.

The first perspective comes from Cheryl Shaffer, a pizza lover and chef.

“I do not think that pineapples should be on pizza whatsoever,” Shaffer said. “I think that having a type of fruit on pizza is disgusting and that both the flavors would clash together that would not bring a good taste,” she continued. “The texture of Pineapples don’t correspond to a pizza either, especially if you have different toppings with the pineapples.”

Another perspective comes from a former Prep student Matthew Silvas.

“I don’t really eat pizza that much, and when I do, I usually just get pepperoni or keep it plain with cheese,” Silvas said. “I feel like having pineapple with pizza would be a little strange though. I’ve never tried it, but just the thought of it kind of grosses me out.”

Silvas and Shaffer both don’t seem like they’re Sam Panopoulos fans. Now let’s look at other perspectives that could differ, Tayler Jonescu and Kyra Jeffery.

“I personally like pineapples on pizza,” Jonescu said. “I don’t see why some people don’t like it. It’s very flavorful with each bite,” Jonescu continued. “When I first heard of it, I thought it was a little strange, but when I tried it, I loved it! Every time I get pizza, I always get it with pineapple, I could eat a whole pizza full of pineapples myself! Hopefully more people will give it a try, and the people who don’t like it, or have never tried it are missing out!”

“I hate pineapple on pizza,” Kyra Jeffery, a sophomore at Imagine Prep said. “I just don’t think that juicy fruit should be on a pizza with meat and grease, it’s just disgusting.” Jeffery said.

Gordon Ramsay ; Chef

The outcome of the interviews goes to show that three out of four people hate or don’t like the idea of pineapple on pizza. Did you know that some people actually find pineapple on pizza offensive?! From the same source, they claim that Gordan Ramsay stated that he disagrees with pineapple on pizza. According to the author, “Gordon Ramsay, a chef never at a loss for words, once opined, “You don’t put . . . pineapple on pizza.” He used a colorful adjective before “pineapple,” to emphasize his disdain. The president of Iceland said he would outlaw pineapple on pizza if he could, a statement that made him an instant hero in some circles,” stated goodfood.com. Most people don’t like pineapple on pizza, and some people love it! Maybe there is no middle ground. What is your opinion on the debate? Should pineapples really be allowed on pizza?
