Opinions on space travel and candidates for supporting human life

A controversial topic.

You may not think so, but many factors determine if space travel is good or bad, based on someone’s beliefs and preferences. For example, religion may have an impact on opinions on space travel.

My mother, a devout Christian, shared her opinions on space travel.

“God has set everyone on earth, and he will not let anyone go to another planet without his permission,” she said.

Although we have been to the moon, the moon cannot sustain life. She says that we cannot settle on another planet without God’s permission. There are other opinions, though.

My father, a non-religious person, says that we are limited by our technological abilities.

“We can go to another planet (Mars) soon, maybe in the next 10 years,” he said.

He believes that if we are able to do it, we can. He does not believe that we need permission from God.

There are a lot of good candidates for sustaining human life. Mars is one of them. SpaceX says that, “Its atmosphere is primarily CO2 with some nitrogen and argon and a few other trace elements, which means that we can grow plants on Mars just by compressing the atmosphere. Gravity on Mars is about 38 percent of that of Earth, so you would be able to lift heavy things and bounce around. Furthermore, the day is remarkably close to that of Earth.” Mars can be very livable with a bit of atmospheric modification.

Another good candidate for life that isn’t as far away as some other candidates is Saturn’s moon Titan.  NASA says that Titan has lakes, seas, and rivers made of liquid hydrocarbons. It also rains the same way it does on Earth, with high-flying clouds that pour back onto the surface. There is also a massive liquid water ocean beneath Titan’s crust, and the atmosphere is mostly made of nitrogen, just like Earth. This means that in theory we can draw water from beneath the crust, as well as making some atmospheric modifications, we can make large farms that can sustain humans. Nitrogen and methane also react to make organic molecules, which is good too.

Some may say “It will take too long to get to any of these places.”. But in reality, we can get to Mars in a few months, and to Titan in around seven years. Seven years is a bit long, but with technology advancing as fast as it is now, we can shorten that amount of time significantly. Some may also say that “We don’t have enough fuel.”. But, in space, there is no gravity. So you can just accelerate for a long amount of time, which will conserve fuel. There is also another spacecraft launch method that involves carrying the spacecraft with a giant balloon.

My opinion on space travel is whatever we are technologically available to do, we can do it. Pretty straight forward, boring, and anti-climactic, but I have few words on my opinion on space travel.

Overall, some people are skeptical about space travel, while others are already packing their bags. Space travel is in the near future, as we have done it so far. Some say religion has a say in it, but we’ll just have to see what happens. There are a lot of good candidates for space travel. Some we may see soon.
