Members of the Republican Party are firm believers in the Second Amendment and that all people should have the right to own, carry and use firearms within reason. They believe the right to bear arms is a god given right of self defense. Along with self defense the Republicans, as well as former President George W.  Bush believe that guns should also be used to continue the American tradition of hunting and that more hunting grounds should be opened for people to use. 

Some members of the Democratic Party however, believe that there should be a much more in depth background check in order to purchase a firearm. Other sources suggest that some Democrats want to repeal the second amendment in its entirety. These sources suggest that some Democrats believe that no one should have the right to carry, own, and use a firearm. 

According to the Nation.com, “The Second Amendment is how law enforcement justifies the need for military-grade armaments…” This shows the Democratic Party believes law enforcement carries military grade weapons because of the Second Amendment. This statement is false. According to Goarmy.com the weapons that are used include the M4/M4A1 Carbine, the M249 Squad automatic weapon (SAW), an M240 7.62 medium machine gun, and many more. According to azdps.gov officers in the Department of Public Safety are issued various Glock handguns as well as a Colt AR15. Do these firearms sound similar to the firearms carried by the US army?
