When it comes to horror and gore in the entertainment industry, American Horror Story really takes the cake on that one.

Season 1 (Murder House):

Aired Oct. 5, 2011 and lasting till Dec. 21, 2011, American Horror Story: Murder House was a real banger. The main story line is based on a teenage spiritual murderer, trapped in an ancient household, known as rubber man. In search of new opportunities, a family is interested in a house that is the lowest selling house  on the market, due to the history of many deaths in the house. Once purchased, they had come to realize very unusual things happening. Many souls had been trapped in the house because they were previous owners who were killed by the rubber man. Now their only escape is through the birth of the current owner’s child.

(Main characters: Vivien Harmon, Dr. Ben Harmon, Tate Langdon, Violet Harmon, Larry Harvey, Constance Langdon,  Hayden McClaine, and Moira O’Hara)

Season 2 (Asylum):

Aired Oct. 17, 2012 and lasting until Jan. 23, 2013. The main storyline is about this news reporter, Lana, who wants to do a story about this mental institution called Briarcliff, however she doesn’t just want a boring description about it, she wants to know what it’s like to be one of the patients. Her first attempt at entering Briarcliff was a fail and she was kicked out. However, the owner of Briarcliff offers a horrible deal to Lana’s spouse, which basically signs Lana’s life away to Briarcliff. Now that she is under Briarcliff’s care she gets to witness and be apart of the madness that goes on in that mental institution. After months of her being in that mad house she finally escapes and writes her ongoing story of being in Briarcliff which brings her much fame for her bravery.

(Main Characters: Dr. Oliver Thredson, Monsignor Timothy Howard, Lana Winters, Kit Walker, Sister Mary Eunice McKee, Grace Bertrand, Dr. Arthur Arden, Sister Jude Martin)

Season 3 (Coven):

Aired Oct. 9, 2013 and lasting until Jan. 24, 2014. With the main themes being witchcraft and racism, American Horror Story: Coven was an alright season. The story shows an academy for witches, whose powers originated from the Salem witches back in the 18th century. Voodoo and other dark magic also has an appearance and is seen briefly as an antagonist. Racism arises from the past and stirs a little trouble from both sides. Coven has a bit of a slow story, but it still packs a punch with excitement and individual storylines. Also, I wouldn’t recommend watching unless you’re truly fascinated by magic and can digest the gruesome racism and torture portrayed throughout the season.

(Main Characters: Cordelia Foxx, Zoe Benson, Myrtle Snow Kyle Spencer, Misty Day, Madison Montgomery, Spalding, Delphine LaLaurie, Fiona Goode)

Season 4 (Freak Show):

Aired Oct. 8, 2014 and lasting until Jan. 22, 2015. I have yet to finish the season, however the American Horror Story fan site gives a get summary of the season. Freak Show begins in sleepy hamlet of Jupiter, Florida. The year is 1952. A troupe of human curiosities has just arrived in town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amongst the dying world of the American carny experience.

(Main Characters: Bette and Dot Tattler, Jimmy Darling, Dell Toledo, Maggie Esmerelda, Dandy Mott, Desiree Dupree, Ethel Darling, Elsa Mars,)

Season 5 (Hotel):

Aired Oct.  7, 2015 and lasting until Jan. 13, 2016, American Horror Story: Hotel  really starts out with a huge bang for the audience. This season is rated MA for a reason, and is a bit hard to watch alone (even worse with your parents!) A blood disease with a horrid thirst and chasing the trail of a serial killer, there is a lot of twist and turns in this season. There are many diverse characters that are all connected due to the hotel and it’s past.

(Main Characters: Iris, Sally McKenna, John Lowe, Donovan, Alex Lowe, Liz Taylor, Will Drake, Ramona Royale, Elizabeth, James March)

Season 6 (Roanoke):

Aired Sept. 14, 2016 and lasting until Nov. 16, 2016. I have yet to finish the season, however the American Horror Story fan site gives a great summary of the season. After a disturbing incident, a young couple moves into a seemingly perfect home built in the 18th century. However, the building’s close proximity to the site of the Lost Colony’s disappearance and with horrific events happening at the house the couple start to sense something dark underneath the facade.

(Main Characters: Lee, Tomasyn White, Cricket Marlowe, Shelby Miller, Ambrose White, Dr. Elias Cunningham, Matt Miller)

(did not finish watching)

Season 7 (Cult):

American_Horror_Story_Season_7.jpg (250×356)

Aired September 5, 2017 and is currently still being aired. Cult is the newest season and truly portrays an American horror story. Taking place in the present, with all the political issues and injustice in the world, this season really takes the cake. In Trump’s America, many people who are scared for the future might not be able to watch this season as it is very NWO (new world order) status. While this season has not finished airing yet, it has done a good job so far portraying the American spirit nowadays.

(Main Characters: Allyson “Ally” Mayfair-Richards, Susan Atkins, Kai Anderson, Andy Warhol, Marshall Applewhite, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Jesus, Charles Manson, Dr. Rudy Vincent, Winter Anderson, Linda Kasabian, Ivy Mayfair-Richards)

American Horror Story is a really interesting T.V show to get into, however it is tricky to keep up with the story lines because each season has so many extra side stories. All, except the last season, are available on both Netflix and Hulu.
