The Perfect Breakfast
April 17, 2018
The sweet smell of thick, sticky maple syrup and pan-fried crispy bacon make their way through the ventilation system. It makes its way into your bedroom. What a heavenly scent. As you breathe in through your nose, it causes your stomach to grumble. In anticipation, you eagerly run down the stairs to get your hands on a plate of this delectable deliciousness.
There it is, a perfectly sized stack of buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon. It’s just waiting to be gobbled up. The pancakes are the right shade of golden brown with a small, dome-shaped top. A small square of butter sits atop the hot cakes and melts ever so slowly waiting for the amber colored syrup to devour it, pouring over its sides making a puddle of extra goodness. Your salivary glands build with excitement for that first bite. But wait, there are three slices of thick and smoky crispy bacon to accompany it. The bacon is slightly sizzling having been removed from the hot pan moments before.
As you sit at the table with the scrumptious breakfast in front of you, you realize you can’t smell the pancakes or the bacon. As you reach for a fork to dive in, one of your favorite breakfasts of all time slowly starts to fade away. “What’s happening?” you ask yourself.
You wake up in a panic, open your eyes and come to the realization it was all a dream. Oh man! In disgust, you pull the blankets over your head and go back to sleep, hoping this will become a reality in the morning.
