Origin of Easter
April 16, 2018
Easter has passed, and while it may be just another day of finding eggs or eating candy, to Christians, it is a much bigger day than that. To them, Easter is more than the Easter bunny and egg hunts. But just what exactly makes that day so special to those people, and how did the big white bunny come into the picture?
Christians believe in Christianity, which follows the person and the teachings of Jesus Christ and all of the events that he went through are recorded in the Bible, the major book in the religion.
The Easter holiday begins on Good Friday, the day that the Friday before Easter Sunday. He was forced to carry a cross through town, with a crown of prickly thorns atop his head. He took the cross on top of a hill, and then his hands and feet were nailed into the wooden cross. The cross was then put into the ground, and Jesus passed away on the cross. His body was placed in a tomb, where his disciples and his mother, the virgin mary, watched over him. When his tomb was opened on Easter Sunday, nobody was inside. The townspeople were amazed to see that Jesus had risen up from the grave and he then ascended to Heaven.
Easter is celebrated with bunnies, eggs, etc. Not a lot of people wonder why we have bunnies and things like that, they just go along with it. You won’t find it in the Bible, however history plays a part instead. In the 1700s, the Germans who settled in Pennsylvania passed down their traditions to others and kids would create a nest to lay down their colored eggs in. Eventually, the candy were just added to the traditions. Easter fall on different days because it depends on when the moon is full in spring. The days are usually between March 21 and April 25.
Hopefully this answered any of your questions and hope you had an awesome Easter.
